Prism Photographic Club Competition report:
20th October 2011
“Green”
By Carol Paes
This meeting we were delighted to welcome our local artist Peter Le Vasseur, who judged one round of our Founders Trophy. This was entitled ‘Your interpretation of an Iconic (artistic) image’. There was a real mix of entries for this competition as everyone had a different idea of what the title actually meant. Peter in his own style, picked the winners but the results will not be announced until our Annual Dinner and Prize giving on the 11th December.
The penultimate round of our annual league competition was ‘Green’. Members had to decide on which of their images would best describe the word green and then to enter an image the other members would hopefully vote for.
The winning shot, which was a beautiful close up of a leaf, cleverly lit and well positioned in the frame, came from Olivier Dorey. Olivier has entered some wonderful work this year and he should be very proud of his achievements. The image of the leaf shows a wonderful example of how spectacular nature can be. Olivier chose to call the image ‘Pathways’ which surely represents the many paths, divided and divided again on the leaf.
2nd place went to Rob Grant with his well seen shot titled ‘Retired’. The trainers, long forgotten in the garden, were covered in moss and weeds and made a wonderful image, well suiting the subject of Green.
3rd place went to Wendy Meade who used an abstract shot of palm leaves to produce a simple but stunning image. The diagonals were well positioned in the corners of the frame to produce a well seen winning shot.
4th place went to Peter Palmeri with his intriguing shot ‘Here birdie’. The picture contained a lot of detail and character, and the work Peter has done on the image clearly worked well to enhance the feel of the picture. A lovely shot, well worth the effort.
Finally 5th place went to Annie Winch, entitled ‘Pead off with Green’. Annie, well known in our club for her love of square format images, chose to do a letter box shape which in this instance has really enhanced the shape of the pea pod and has helped you focus directly on the peas.
Well done to everyone who has entered the league again this meeting, shame we can’t all win! There is only one round of the league to go now and it is all a big secret as to who has placed or is in fact in the winning position. Join us at the Annual Dinner to find out.
